Local Sports – Colorado Rockies

Here we are in the middle of April, the Rockies are actually in the hunt (for now) in the National League West! As everyone knows in Colorado, March and April are our snowiest months so we might have to live through another snow out or two. What is great about Colorado is we are a baseball state.  That’s right Coloradans know how to play baseball. Even though our two major universities don’t field baseball teams (which is just sad). Colorado has produced some great baseball players, Goose Gossage and Roy Halladay just to name a few. We here in the Denver Metro area have some great baseball teams that no one has heard of. Teams like the Denver Browns. The… Read More →

Local Sports: Victims of Complacency

Well, it always happens when we least expect it. Playing at home, after a bye week, as 9.5 point favorites, there was no way the Broncos were going to lose to the Ravens. BOOM! A missed opportunity on 3rd and 10 followed by a Peyton Manning interception, and Raven’s kicker Justin Tucker knocked home a game-winning field goal, simultaneously crushing our hopes for a Super Bowl berth. There is so, so much to be said following one of the biggest let-downs in Broncos playoff history. Through the initial stretch of the NBA season, the Denver Nuggets have looked decent. The team is currently sitting in second place in the Northwest division, and has shown promise amid streaks of inconsistency. That said, there is one particular note to be made about this season that will work in the Nuggets favor when it comes time for a playoff push: Their schedule. As of right now, the Denver Nuggets have played more road games than any other team in the league. The thing about road games is that everyone plays the exact same number of them by the end of the year. So, at some point, the Nuggets will counter by having more home games than every other… Read More →

It has been a while since a Colorado college football team made an appearance in a bowl game. The Rams’ last chance was back in 2008, and the Buffaloes haven’t made a bowl appearance since losing to Alabama in the 2007 Independence bowl. Amid sub-par seasons for both programs, the Buffaloes and the Rams are in the process of making big moves that have the potential to right the football ship for both schools. In Boulder, the 2012 football season came to an end with the firing of Head Coach John Embree. While many thought Embree was fired without a fair chance, he was ultimately set up for failure. Why? He was thrust into a head coaching spot too soon…. Read More →

Local Sports: Broncos Better Than Ever

The last time we spoke about the Broncos, it seemed we had nothing but criticism. This Broncos team that started the season at 1-2 is now operating like a finely tuned sports car, and is heading full speed towards the post-season. In the early going, it seemed that Peyton Manning needed to simply become accustomed to playing in live game situations again. After a rocky performance on Monday night in Atlanta, many fans wondered if the Manning pick-up would actually work out the way it was expected to. Few have wondered since… Peyton Manning has more than settled in to his new role in Denver, and the 12-3 Broncos have given fans the luxury of worrying about a first-round bye,… Read More →
