A Damsel in Denver – Dating In The Park

I was recently introduced to a very free-spirited and adventurous gentleman by a mutual friend. I wasn’t very surprised that this guy decided to invite me on a frisbee golf date, and found myself looking forward to our adventurous outing. Damsel Note: Now, I have specific date outfits that I go to depending on the location of the date (don’t laugh, you know you do the same thing) but I was kinda thrown on what to wear on a date in the park. Mommy & Me: Westbrook Park

You probably have never heard of Westbrook Park unless you live in my neighborhood, or one of the adjacent ones. But it’s a playground worth a short trip to visit- if you’re more than 20 minutes away, you probably have something similar in your own neighborhood, but I have to say, I think Westbrook Park is pretty great, and my daughter gives it two thumbs up, or in toddler terms, she begs me to take her every day.

Mommy & Me: Standley Lake

It may not seem like the best time of year to go to a lake, even a large one, but I think fall is a lovely time to visit Standley Lake in Arvada. The water level is low, and I don’t recommend swimming in it at this time of year, but the weather is so gorgeous, and there will be fewer people, which makes it a great time to bring small children, who weren’t going to be swimming, anyway. Standley Lake is most often used for boating and water-skiing, but the park has a myriad trails and beaches and places perfect for a picnic or just playing in the sand. Mommy & Me – Waneka Lake Park

I attended high school in Lafayette, but I hadn’t been back to Waneka Lake Park in quite awhile. My daughter and I were invited to a playdate there this week, and I was so happy to see the place in such great shape. There is a ton of new equipment (and by new, I mean it wasn’t there 13 years ago when I was in high school), and the lake is just as I remember. Waneka Lake Park is tucked into a neighborhood just south of South Boulder Road, off Centaur Village Drive. It is situated on a nice, large lake which is great for walking, and bringing a pooch. Mommy & Me: Westminster Sensory Park

Tucked in next to the river bed just southwest of Target, Westminster Sensory Park is a great place to play. It’s one my daughter has requested over and over, and it’s easy to see why. This park is designed with all kinds of kids in mind; the main part of the playground is wheelchair accessible, and has lots of little activity centers that go beyond the usual slides and ladders. My little girl’s favorite is the little piano where she likes to play all sorts of spontaneous tunes, but there are also gears to turn, puzzles, and counting practice.
